New Amazon map of indigenous territories and protected areas

Amazon Information Network launches map of the Amazon

The map 2009 is the first product of the Amazon Network of Socio georeferenced Information (RAISG), involving research, governmental and civil society institutions in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia and French Guiana.

The map aims to help overcome fragmented visions about the region, and promote integrated initiatives, national and international, as a way to cooperate in the consolidation of protected areas and indigenous territories, as significant part of the solution to the conservation and sustainable use of ecosystem.

As there are different ways to define the limits of the Amazon, the Raisg opted in this map, to use the political limits of the Amazonian regions of each country, which resulted in an area of 7.8 million km2.
