executive board_

Composed of one Executive Secretary and one or more assistents appointed by the Board of Directors and ratified by the General Assembly, the Executive Board of the Socioenvironmental Institute is the forum for making executive decisions and institutional policies. The necessity for appointing multiple secretaries is due to the extensive responsibilities and volume of work arising from the size and complexity of the organization, which depends on four permanent offices (in São Paulo, Brasilia, Manaus (AM) and São Gabriel de Cachoeira (AM)) and numerous projects operating in physically dispersed locations. Furthermore, it is necessary to have the members of the Executive Board participate simultaneously on target activities, making it possible to coordinate projects.

The main responsibilities of the Executive Board are as follows: supervise and manage administrative, financial, budgeting, and planning functions; elaborate and revise technical and financial reports of ISA’s projects and activities, and submit them to the Board of Directors to review; plan and analyze semi-annual budgets and activities, and submit them to the Board of Directors to review; coordinate fund-raising activities of the organization; contract entities or individuals as needed for fulfilling ISA’s administrative and technical activities; hire, dismiss, and transfer technical and service personnel according to the organizational schema of positions and salaries, and take other measures related to the staffing necessary for fulfilling the Plans of Activity approved by the General Assembly; accept funding and contributions to the Institute, as long as these do not compromise ISA’s autonomy and independence; appoint representatives of the Socioenvironmental Institute to participate in seminars, symposia, meetings, and other national and international events; forward financial accounting records and annual budget forecasts to the Board of Directors.
