Sustainable Management of Natural Resources

This line of activities involves the development and replication of sustainable models for taking advantage of agroforestry and aquatic resources in the Rio Negro region by bringing together traditional and technical forms of knowledge through direct partnership between ISA and the local associations affiliated with FOIRN. The main objective of such models is to enhance the food security of the indigenous communities located in critical areas. These models include setting up pilot experiments in fish-breeding and agroforestry management in the upper parts of the Tiquié, Uaupés, and Içana rivers and around the city of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, along with complementary activities for training local counterparts in technical and administrative skills. From 1999 to 2003, three fish-breeding and agroforestry installations were established on the Tiquié, Uaupés, and Içana rivers.
