Research options about Indigenous peoples in Brazil on the net. Indicating them does not necessarily mean that ISA (Instituto Socioambiental) agrees with the information they present, nor with the actions developed by the entities that maintain them:

  • ANAI (Associação Nacional de Ação Indigenista - "National Association of Indigenist Action")
    Develops activities of information and promotion of the rights of the Indigenous peoples of Northeastern Brazil.
  • ASPECTUR (Associação Pataxó de Ecoturismo)
    Informa sobre o projeto de ecoturismo, turismo cultural e educação ambiental desnvolvido pela entidade na Reserva Pataxó da Jaqueira (Bahia).
  • Autonomias Locais (Local Autonomies)
    Group of professionals who work with Indigenous societies publishes information and analyses.
  • CCPY (Comissão Pró-Yanomami - "Pro-Yanomami Commission")
    Support organization for the Yanomami people (States of Roraima and Amazonas and Venezuela).
  • CEDEFES (Centro de Documentação Eloy Ferreira da Silva - "Eloy Ferreira da Silva Documentation Center")
    Non-governmental organization involved in the Indigenous question, especially in the State of Minas Gerais.
  • CIMI (Conselho Indigenista Missionário - "Indigenist Missionary Council")
    Organ that belongs to the Roman Catholic Church’s Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil ("National Conference of Bishops of Brazil").
  • CIR (Conselho Indígena de Roraima)
    Indigenous organization that represents the indians of Roraima state: Wapixana, Macuxi, Taurepang, Ingarikó, Patamona, Wai Wai, Yanomami e Yekuana.
  • CTI (Centro de Trabalho Indigenista - "Center of Indigenist Work")
    Non-governmental organization based in São Paulo and present in several parts of the country.
  • Funai (Fundação Nacional do Índio - "Indian National Foundation")
    Organ of the Federal Government in charge of Indigenous questions in Brazil.
  • Governo do Acre
    (Acre State Government). The site’s search tools make it possible to find news and information regarding the State’s Indigenous peoples.
  • Governo do Amapá
    (Amapá State Government). Information about the State’s Indians.
  • Governo do Distrito Federal
    (Government of the Federal District). The Secretary of Culture presents the Memorial dos Povos Indígenas (Indigenous Peoples Memorial), located in Brasília.
  • Governo do Mato Grosso do Sul
    (Mato Grosso do Sul State Government). The State Secretary of the Environment, Culture and Tourism brings information about the Indigenous groups that live in the State. 
  • Governo do Paraná
    (Paraná State Government). Area dedicated to the peoples that live in the State.
  • Governo do Rio de Janeiro
    (Rio de Janeiro State Government). A historical overview of Indigenous presence.
  • Governo do Tocantins
    (Tocantins State Government). Information about the Indigenous groups in the State.
  • INDI (Instituto de Desenvolvimento dos Povos Indígenas - "Institute for the Development of the Indigenous Peoples")
    Non-governmental organization based in the State of Tocantins.
  • Ministério da Saúde
    (Ministry of Health) The National Coordination of DST/ AIDS (Sexually Transmitted Diseases/AIDS) presents its project of actions towards Indigenous populations.
  • MEC (Ministério da Educação e do Desporto)
    (Ministry of Education and Sport). The Secretaria de Educação Fundamental ("Secretary of Basic Education") brings information regarding the Federal Government’s policies in the area of Indigenous school education.
  • OPAN (Operação Amazônia Nativa)
    ("Native Amazon Operation"). Indigenist entity that works in the Center-West and North regions of Brazil.
  • Página do Melatti
    (Melatti’s page). Anthropologist Julio Cezar Melatti, of the University of Brasília (UnB), makes available part of his studies and a complete course about Indigenous peoples of South America.
  • Pará é Amazônia
    ("Pará is Amazon"). State government organs and private companies jointly bring information about the State of Pará. Includes a section about the State’s Indigenous peoples.
  • Programa Waimiri Atroari
    ("Waimiri Atroari Program"). A number of indigenist actions directed towards the Waimiri Atroari people (States of Roraima and Amazonas).
  • Projeto Vídeo nas Aldeias
    ("Video in the Villages Project"). Teaches Indians how to make videos, forms Indian video makers and produces videos.
  • Pro-Magis Social
    Project of the Pastoral Department of the Colégio Santo Inácio (Fortaleza, Ceará). Includes the Núcleo Povos Indígenas do Ceará ("Nucleus of Indigenous Peoples of the State of Ceará").
  • SIL (Sociedade Internacional de Lingüística no Brasil)
    (International Linguistics Society in Brazil). Information regarding the entity’s actions, especially in the areas of linguistic research and school education.
