Types of documents

 

References were grouped in 18 types and indexed by author:

  • Articles from Periodicals and Academic Series – articles published in periodicals in Brazil and abroad, as well as some academic series.
  • Catalogues – catalogues of shows and exhibits of photography, material culture and video in Brazil and abroad.
  • Compilations of Myths and Stories – compilations of Indigenous myths and stories, with or without introduction and presentation.
  • Didactic publications – the production of primers, dictionaries, story books and textbooks produced for use in Indian schools, published or with minimum conditions of being reproduced.
  • Records and CDs – records and CDs with Indigenous songs released in Brazil and abroad.
  • Expert Reports (Laudos) – anthropological reports prepared for judicial disputes involving territorial rights of Indians.
  • Book Chapters – chapters of books whose central theme does not refer to Brazilian Indians published in Brazil and abroad.
  • Compilations of Articles – books that have compilations of articles dealing exclusively with Indians or books on other themes that have three or more articles about them.
  • Essays – published monographs on Indigenous peoples or essays about them.
  • Legislation and Juridical Topics – books and compilations of articles dealing with Indigenous legislation and juridical topics related to Indigenous rights.
  • Literature – novels and fiction for children, teenagers and adults with themes related to Indians in Brazil.
  • Para-didactic and Advertising – specific para-didactic production directed to students and their advertising material for the public in general.
  • Cimi Publications – publications by or sponsored by the Conselho Indigenista Missionário (Missionary Indigenist Council), official organ of CNBB (Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil – National Conference of Brazil’s Bishops), of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Government Publications – publications of government organs (Funai, Eletronorte, São Paulo City Government etc).
  • References – reference publications with information about Indians in Brazil or indications of documents about them.
  • NGO Material – published material referring to projects and campaigns developed by NGOs as well as printed reports.
  • Dissertations and Theses – Master’s theses and Ph.D. and teaching dissertations defended and approved within the period, in Brazil and abroad. It is one of the most consistent items of this listing.
  • Videos and Films – video and film production of the period about Indians, especially by NGOs and independent centers of production.
