Portrayed by the Frenchman painter Hercules Florence during the expedition led by Baron von Langsdorf between 1825 and 1829, the Apiaká, known as a warrior people, were many. In two centuries of contact and after an intense process of depopulation, however, they were unable to keep their language and their traditional way of life.
