ISA deeply regrets the death of Flávia Amboss Merçon Leonardo, victim of the brutal and cowardly shooting attack at the Primo Bitti State School, which occurred on November 25 in Aracruz, Espírito Santo.
A researcher committed to defending the rights of fishing populations affected by socio-environmental disasters, Flavia Merçon defended her thesis, "Impressed in the time of crisis: managing the effects of the Samarco disaster (Vale and BHP Billiton) and the crisis as a context in the territory traditionally occupied at the southern mouth of the Doce River," at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
ISA expresses its solidarity with family, friends and students from Aracruz and with professors and colleagues from the Environmental Studies Group (GESTA) and the Postgraduate Program in Anthropology and Archaeology at UFMG.
